None of us like the idea of being powerless. It’s a difficult thing to accept because we’re told throughout our lives that we are masters of our own destiny. We’re told we must be in control. And so we try to control our lives; we sometimes even try to control other people’s lives. We take on the world with the conviction that we have the power to at least control our corner of it. But in truth we don’t and we can’t.
No matter what we do we can’t control the weather, we can’t control the passage of time, we can’t choose our family, we can’t pick the gift or abilities we are graced with and we have no idea what’s around the next corner. We are powerless to the drunken driver, the debilitating sickness, the unexpected tragedy.
And so I ask, wouldn’t it be better to hand all control over to the One who does have the power? Wouldn’t it be better to allow God to rule you, rather than your schedules, your jobs, your financial situations? After all, God knows you better than you know yourself and He cares what happens to you. He knows everything. He has already saved your eternal soul, so why not let Him save your life on earth as well? You have nothing to fear when He is in control.
Embrace your powerlessness. Accept it. Revel in it. Praise the Lord for it. Because He is the one with the power and He knows how to use it.

He has the untimate power!
Lynda, you have said it all. How very true. There are a lot of things we can be in control of, but the important things of life just must be put in His hands. How powerful He is. I hope that you are well and enjoying life once again. I've missed your posts.
oh you are so beautiful Lynda! You always touch my heart. Love this and so timely, yet again.
Bless you xoxo.
Hello,
Very thought provoking post, very useful and very practical.
Even though we try to control so many things in our life,we find most times we are not in control of anything at all. This leads to anger, frustration, disappointment,
stress and despair. It is better to accept our situation in life as that given to us by God and be cheerful and happy and thank God for what HE has given us.In this way we get inner peace and harmony. After all peace is what we need in this life so that we can carry on with our pursuits in this world with a clear perspective and proper direction and try to use our talents to the best of our ability,
God know what is best for us and there is no point in fight against HIS divine will.
Excellent post.
Best wishes,
Joseph
This is a constant struggle for me. I am a self-professed control freak, and I have a hard time "loosing control" of my emotions (ie crying in public, etc.) much less the larger things in life. It's always nice to be reminded that the one in control isn't me and to be gently nudged into handing over the reins.
Thank you!
Yes, yes, yes!!
I loved this line: "Wouldn't it be better to allow God to rule you, rather than your schedules, your jobs, your financial situations?" I might add - your friends, your family, your health...
I don't consider myself a "control freak" as most people would define it. But, I am realizing more and more that my FEAR is really a lack of trust in GOD. I lose sight of His Sovereignty, His Providence, when I am afraid of tomorrow.
I really like these words from Psalm 91 (I've changed the order around):
"Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day. Do not dread...the disaster that strikes at midday.
[For God] is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him."
Thanks for this wonderful message, Lynda!
GOD BLESS!
Hi,
Your blog and the comments left by others, is very apt for me today and has spoken to me more than you will ever know. Guess I can be a control freak and I definately need to give the reigns over to God, I was reading Psalm 91 this morning and the same passage should out to me. Thank you for posting this today, right on time, God is Good and in control in more ways than we appreciate I only started to read and follow your blog, last night, today you posted this and others posted things so much in line with it. Blessings - Nita.
Was just responding to another blog about the topic of power. I agree our control is very limited down here, but I love that verse that says we have the same power in us (our Spirits) that raised Jesus from the dead.
So while everything is out of control, we have the power to hold a beautiful perspective.

Love this, we are powerless! We are told, take your own destiny all the time. Great that you pointed out how powerless we are

I love this reminder and the truth that we should be completely dependent on God alone. He is the only true Source of strength anyway. In our brokenness, that's when His redemptive power works the best! God bless you sister.
good post Lynda. I've felt so powerless in my life that I struggled to be in control. Now...I can trust HIm...at least most of the time.
I just posted an illustration that I think goes well with this post. I'd be honored if you'd check it out.
Surrendering isn't easy when we live in a society that almost seems to idolize those that are in power. I've been swept up in the need to control only to be more full of doubt and fear. Embracing that He gives me the tools through His power to do His works is a so much easier, isn't it. Thanks for the reminder.
All I could do was cry... but then RCUBEs started it :) and I just came from there. I needed both tonight. WOW! this was to the point and just the way I needed to HEAR it. I am powerless over my current season. It never dawned on me to thank him for it ...because HE has all the power to intervene - or strengthen - or transform. He has all the power.
Oh Lord help me relinquish my small corner of control - to you. It is a fearful thot for me. It feel hugely vulnerable, But I can't continue this way. Search me O God. Reveal those hidden things that keep me tethered to the fear of more loss and vulnerability. Cover me in the battle; blanket me with your strength and clothe me with your power. My heart's desire is to be wholly thine - fully surrendered - body mind and spirit....a useful vessel to carry your TRUTH.
God bless you Lynda for sharing this wisdom with us

How good it is to know that we have nothing to fear. God is in control.
No matter how much we want to control ~ we have no power within ourselves. I always mess up when I want to be in control. How much better to just turn the reins over to the One who controls this universe? Thanks for posting this.
Thank you Linda for becoming a follower of my blog. I am truly honored. God bless.
Oh, Lynda!
How I needed to hear this--God has asked me (at Relevant) to write another blog about abortion/adoption--my personal experiences to become a reconciler for woe to His healing--I am nervous about it--doing it excellently and with grace. But for now, He just wants me to be obedient, and write.
And give Him control.
Thank you, Lord, for using lynda, today to remind me of Who is sovereign.
Amen.
I love you!

I meant to type, a reconciler for WOMEN, not woe, LOL!
Although, woe would be apropos, too.
Strong message and very well written. It is what I needed to hear today. Thank you for the reminder. I know it's hard to be powerless but for knowing that the one who's in control is the most powerful one, that gives me peace of mind. Just needed to be reminded sometimes.
