God’s Love

How often do you hear, “Love thy neighbour”? How often do you want to do just that but their selfishness makes you want to hold back or their insensitivity makes you impatient? How often do you beat yourself up for failing to be the Christian you want to be?

We all want to do as God tells us but we can’t if we try to go it alone. He gives us the power to be the people He wants is to be. This power is based on love. We can’t give love if we don’t first accept it. I’m not talking about the fickleness of human love. I’m talking about the faithfulness of God’s love. When we let it, God’s love fills us up and overflows in a river of kindness, patience, forgiveness, and mercy.

God’s love is the only love we can rely on. God’s love is a power like no other. It can change us. We no longer need to rely on others to give us acceptance, recognition, or self worth. Our love is born from gratitude towards the amazing things God has done for us.

How does God’s love sustain you?

Lynda, this is so true. I have been thinking about these very things recently... we must first receive His love: rivers of Living Water, that it may bubble up and flow out to others.

It's wonderful to see how God has come out to us and adapted to our need. So He comes out in the Father, to show a fatherly love; in Christ, to show love as Saviour and Shepherd; in the Holy Spirit to help and sustain. And much more than this of course!

I don't know how His love sustains me but I know it does. Maybe cause it's real...and He loves me just because....doesn't force me to do anything..but gives me choices...The more I feel His love..the more He puts up with me...the more I want to be the best I can for Him.

Sarah, one of the great mysteries. I guess we don't ened to know the hows, we just need to know how awesome it is :)

No matter what happens in life, just knowing God is always there, loving and supporting us helps to get through the difficulties. Thanks for your beautiful post, Lynda!

How often do I beat myself up for failure? Very often...from your earlier post where I wrote that negative comments don't bother me too much unless they come from a select few...my worst critic is myself...

But that is not what God created me to be...just like you wrote..."When we let it, God’s love fills us up and overflows in a river of kindness, patience, forgiveness, and mercy. "...those first four words are very important...

Great post, Lyn!

Connie, God will never leave us. Blessings :)

Karen, we are similar. I too am my worst critic and I give myself more pressure than there needs to be. God reminds me -- often -- how much I need Him because only through Him do I find fulfillment.
