Express Yourself

I read an interesting statistic the other day. Apparently people who argue on a regular basis are twice as likely to live longer than those who suppress their feelings.

This surprised me. I’ve always related arguing with stress and stress is a known factor for shortening lives.

But what that particular statistic tells me is that it’s not about the arguing; it’s about the need to express ourselves. It tells me the importance of being real and honest – with ourselves, with our partners, with every relationship we have.

And I think it’s most especially important to be honest with our Lord because this relationship, more than any other, matters most in our lives. This relationship will have the greatest impact to our lives and it will affect every other.

So, tell God about your happiness, tell Him about your delights. Tell Him about the things that upset you and the things that make you angry. Tell him your hopes and your dreams. Tell Him your secrets.

God will never turn away from you. He won’t think less of you. He will love you. He will give you His time, His patience, His forgiveness, His guidance.

He will give you everything you need.

Do you find it difficult to be honest with our Lord?

Thank you for providing this post for my Friday. Yup, I heard that also about expressing oneself is a whole lot better than holding it in. Thank you for sharing dear one. Blessings.

I'm like David with God--don't hold back. He sees it all anyway.

I do tend to dread starting prayer. I don't want to take the time to pray because I would rather be doing something else, but once I start talking and get into it...twenty minutes will go by. You are right about needing to express ourselves. I am not that way. I am a surpresser. I have to work on opening up more because I tend to bottle things up, not even talking about it in prayer.

I wonder if those who don't argue...are just holding in their restentments and that is what kills you faster. Not sure but this is a vert interesting post.

Amen! That is the way I talk to God. With respect but also as a friend. I let him know how I feel, etc.

Thanks Lyn

This is so true. In my job, I try to help people "find their voice". Sometimes we are so afraid to say how we really feel to God and others. I have a saying that I heard somewhere. Feelings aren't right or wrong....they just are.

Blessings and hugs to you my friend,
Tammy

Happy Friday! Thank you for sharing this.. We can't hide anything from God anyways, so why not tell him everything and just be honest with him... it's so wonderful knowing that God never think less of me.

With God, I have no problem expressing my innermost feelings and thoughts. But with people, sometimes I just quiet myself. I still do have to improve on expressing my thoughts especially when I have an important point to raise. Thanks for sharing this post, Lynda

Feeling a bit fluey this weekend so my comments are a bit reduced. We've had so much rain in Sydney I've almost forgotten what the sun looks like!

Anyways, thank you so very much for all your comments. I appreciate every single one of them.

Blessings to you all and I hope you have a great weekend.
