Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” Luke 23:34a (NKJV)
This cry from the cross, this agony drawn out in a bloody breath, spoke volumes of Jesus’ love for us. He saved us despite the evil things we did to him. He saved us despite the agony he went through. He saved us because he knew it wasn’t about him; it wasn’t about the moment; it wasn’t about the decay in our actions, thoughts and hearts. It was, and is, about God’s Love.
On the cross Jesus touched our hearts and spoke to our souls. When he rose again, he changed us forever. How can we not respond to such a love?

You wonder sometimes how others
can not respond to such a love,
then you remember your own
cold blind heart. I am eternally
grateful to the Lord for His
great mercy and love.
Blessings,
Sandy
Sandy, We don't respond when we don't open our eyes to see.

Many of the people of the world go through life blindly, with eyes closed. And they refuse to listen as well.

Tossing It Out
He saved us because He loves us.
Yes hard for us to understand such love. Strange to see Friday post, when I have not got to Friday. Why do I find this time difference fascinating?

Lee, it's sad, but true.
Alex, and how awesome is it that He saved us? I don't have words.
Kim, Being Aussie, I'm ahead of my time ;)
Beyond responding to this love, can we, in turn, say "please forgive them" about the people who harm us (and in far less painful/traumatic ways)?
Thank you so much for this powerful reminder. It does make the heart overflow with loving gratitude!
How can we not respond to such a love?
Obedience and thankfulness are a Christians best response to the cross. Jesus said, if you love me you will do what I say.
.. it's time to open our eyes at last!
Thanks for your inspiring post, Lynda!
Most definitely something I needed to hear today!

Elizabeth, exactly right. Do as Jesus did, and forgive others.
Connie, this loving gratitude spills over into our whole lives and the lives of others
Ron, obedience and thankfulness. Yes! These are things we need to practice more.
Betty, yes, open our eyes and keep them open :) blessings to you
Such agonizing words from our Lord as He hung on the cross. Even when He was being crucified, His thoughts were not one Himself. So humbling.
Have a blessed weekend, Linda!
Michelle, It is humbling. There is so much we can learn from Jesus.
This post touched my heart... I could dwell in the words forever...
I had written a comment here, but for some reason it is not here (I do something amiss often :/ )

I'll never understand why some people reject Jesus.
Stopping by Karen's BBQ party. I'm following you now.
Karen & Gerard, once we know Jesus, it IS hard to believe how we could ever reject him.
I'm glad I found this great blog! I often try to keep blog simple etc. and is great to read your posts that so are wonderfully devoted to Jesus : ) This is a great passage and I needed it today
